Anderson Grove students learn new skills in dance club

Students learn to dance through dance club

Students at Anderson Grove Elementary have the opportunity to learn how to dance with a team through dance club.

5th grade teacher Lauren Rutledge and speech pathologist Olivia Lee are the sponsors of the club. Rutledge and Lee have cheerleading and dance backgrounds.

Lee is a dance team coach at PLHS and Rutledge spent time as a cheer coach at PLSHS.

Now they are bringing their skills to the 3rd-6th grade students at Anderson Grove Elementary.

"We are both passionate about it and we love that kids want to explore that interest," Lee explained.

Currently, the club is made up of 18 students.

"We just really wanted to do something to inspire kids to go out and be active and we knew there were a lot of kids who liked to dance just for fun," Lee said.

The club started gathering interest at the end of August and in September Rutledge and Lee held tryouts for the club.

"They were able to come bring a performance of their own and they could do it with a partner," she said.

They started practicing together in September every Tuesday and have so far performed during two school-wide assemblies.
