Sixth graders at G. Stanley Hall Elementary learned about poetry as part of the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum. To wrap up their poetry unit, they participated in a “poetry slam” on Friday, December 20 where the students performed their poems in front of their classmates in the library.
The library was dressed up like a café with a fire projected on the smart board, table cloths covered the surfaces, and the lights were dimmed.
The teachers were serving hot chocolate and other treats.
The students were able to volunteer to read their poems in front of the class. Some of the poems were about recycling, sports, and anything else that interested them.
