First grade students explore future careers through Vehicle Day

Students pose at Vehicle Day

First-grade students from across Papillion La Vista Community Schools had the opportunity to hear, see and touch real vehicles used in a wide variety of careers and in our community for the 20th annual Vehicle Day.

Several businesses and government agencies were at the Vehicle Day held at the Papio Bay parking lot including Coca Cola, Werner Enterprises, Pizza West, Gina V Physical Therapy, the U.S. Post Office, The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office, Lowes, The Papillion Police Department, The Papillion Fire Department, Hyvee, Papillion Sanitation, and La Vista Public Works, among others.

The representatives from the businesses took time to show the students around their vehicles and explain a little about the career that is associated with it.

The students came to the event with specific questions to ask, such as the following:

What does your business do? How many people work at your business? How did you get started in your job?

Each school spent about an hour and a half at the event.
