Papillion La Vista South High School student-athletes competed against first responders on Foundation Field for the 3rd annual Heroes Challenge on Thursday, August 1 at 6 p.m.
The student-athletes wrapped up their summer workouts Thursday and as a way of saying “thank you” to those who serve our community, the students challenged first responders to a friendly, physical fitness competition. Several stations were set up throughout the field and each participant/team had to work through in the shortest amount of time to win the top spot.
Some of the challenges included an ambulance push, a tire flip, a 200-yard log carry, and a relay event.
"The first responders sacrifice so much for our community and any chance we get to get together with them and do something fun like this, we try to take advantage of it," said PLSHS Assistant Principal Jeff Spilker.
The athletes who participated in the event play football, volleyball, basketball, cross country, and soccer. The first responders who participated are from the Papillion and La Vista Police Department as well as the fire department, along with the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office.
