Graduate Safe 2019 was a success with about 60% of PLHS graduates including midterm and IDEAL graduates attending.
The Graduate Safe program, which is drug and alcohol-free, is a constructive response to statistics which show that on graduation night deaths from alcohol-related car crashes double or triple from the usual deaths per day.
The event started at 9:30 pm. and ended at 4:00 a.m. The students had plenty to do to fill that time with inflatables, reptile petting zoo, casino area, hypnotist, and amazing prizes.
The Graduate Safe program is supported by junior and senior high school parents, area businesses and many other community organizations and individuals.
Papillion-La Vista High School has hosted the Graduate Safe program annually for over 25 years. Planning began last fall, and the community has been very supportive of this super senior send off.
The lead parent chair was Scott Campbell and Katie Wittrig helped coordinate on the school side.
