Jason Ryan, athletic director at Papillion La Vista High School, has been named the Region II Outstanding Assistant Principal by the Nebraska Association of Secondary School Principals.
"I'm very honored, very humbled," Ryan said.
He explained he feels there are so many deserving assistant principals and administrators of this type of recognition.
"My first thought was, okay, who nominated me?" he said smiling.
"You don't receive these types of awards if you are not surrounded by great people."
Ryan started his career at Papillion La Vista High School right out of college as a special education teacher and assistant baseball and basketball coach.
He eventually became the head basketball coach.
"I've worked for six different athletic directors as a head basketball coach and I took a lot from each of those individuals," he said.
The opportunity to become the AD came up for him six years ago, he thought it would be a good fit so he threw his hat in the ring for the position.
"The role is always expanding and changing and every day is different, which I like."
Ryan accepted the award Wednesday, April 24.
