CADRE participants create project for Connections program
Papillion La Vista Community Schools teachers in the University of Nebraska at Omaha's CADRE Project recently created calming bottles for the Connections program at Project Harmony.
“One of the pillars of the UNO CADRE Project is being a responsible citizen and working to make our already great community even better,” Nichols said. “We were very purposeful in choosing the Connections program since they directly serve the PLCS. “
A calming bottle, sometimes called a glitter jar, serves as an intervention for emotional regulation by providing a calming sensory experience for someone experiencing anxiety, fear, anger or similar negative emotions.
Connections is a voluntary program that works to detect and confront mental health problems in children and to seek appropriate solutions so children can reach their full potential. The Project Harmony program matches children identified by school and medical professionals with community therapists.
CADRE is a nationally-recognized program at UNO for newly certified elementary and secondary teachers seeking an accelerated master’s degree. The program places licensed CADRE teachers in classrooms throughout the metropolitan area while providing additional support for their graduate studies.
This year’s CADRE teachers and associates are Jordan Koch, Alyssa Aden, Brooke Kell, Jaime Bizal, Ami Nichols and Cammie Redford. They met together on a weekend in early November to work on the bottle project.
