Bookshelves
leapt into a pumpkin patch at Hickory Hill Elementary School on Friday, Oct.
21, as parents visited the school in the afternoon to see second-graders’
literary-themed carved pumpkins.
Students chose a character from a
book, wrote a biography of that character and then decorated pumpkins to look
like their characters. Those pumpkins were displayed with students eagerly
showing their parents their work and explaining how their pumpkin relates to
the book they read – essentially giving a book report in the form of a
jack-o’-lantern.
After parents had a chance to explore
the pumpkin patch, other students came by to look at their peer’s work as well.
Students were able to take their creative pumpkins home with them after school.
Second-graders at Hickory Hill Elementary School gave book reports to their parents and peers in the form of decorated pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016. In this photo, Taylor Paasch, left, shows off a pumpkin made to look like a dinosaur to go along with "My First Book of Dinosaurs." Students chose a character from a book, wrote a biography of that character and then decorated pumpkins to look like their characters. After a show-and-tell, the second-graders took their decorated pumpkins with them to display at home.
