Author Julia Cook visits Prairie Queen students to teach SEL lessons
Author Julia Cook visited all grade levels at Prairie Queen Elementary on Tuesday, February 18. In preparation for her visit, students read her books, answered questions about the author, and participated in a bookmark making contest.
Cook is a former teacher and school counselor and write books for children that let them laugh while learning to solve their own problems, use better behavior, and develop healthy relationships.
Julia Cook’s presentation focused on Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
SEL is a curriculum put into place this school year that helps students understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy, and maintain positive relationships.
Cook’s presentation also served as professional development for teachers and staff.
