Papillion La Vista Community Schools is pleased to partner with the Papillion Fire Department during Fire Prevention Week. PFD was busy throughout the week visiting with children to talk about fire safety, helping children not be afraid of a firefighter with all their gear on, and providing live demonstrations.

The firefighters visited G. Stanley Hall Elementary on October 8, Prairie Queen Elementary on October 10, and Trumble Park Elementary on October 15.

Students are taught fire safety

The students were taught how to stop, drop, and roll and also what to do when they hear smoke detectors going off. They were all shown how firefighters put on their uniforms and why they wear what they do.

Live fire demo of fire sprinklers

(Firefighters provided students at Prairie Queen Elementary a live demonstration of fire in rooms with and without fire sprinklers)

On Wednesday, October 9, 4th and 5th-grade students were able to travel by bus to the Papillion Fire Station on Chandler Road for a live fire demonstration.

The students were able to get an up-close look at fire sprinklers in action. The students saw a large trailer that displays an actual fire burning in rooms in a side-by-side comparison. The event is made possible by the Fire Sprinkler Coalition of Nebraska and the Nebraska Society of Fire Safety Engineers.
