Prairie Queen Elementary School donates water, cleaning supplies to flood victims
The students and staff at Prairie Queen Elementary School held a donation drive for flood victims impacted by the March historic flooding in the area and were able to collect several items to donate.
The school received an outpouring of support from students and staff. They donated cases of water, buckets, and cleaning supplies and even took the time to load up all the supplies in boxes.
Third-grade teacher Linda Poole helped organize the donation drive. She describes the donation drive week as a heartwarming week to see the students and community step up to help their neighbors in surrounding communities who have lost so much because of the floods.
"We put out 'a call' asking our PQ family to help and we were not disappointed," she said.
"Donations of water, cleaning supplies, buckets, mops, and personal hygiene items were just some of the physical donations that were received. Some things just can't be measured by 'things' but instead, the comments from kids as they brought in their donations could make one tear up."
Poole said she heard things such as:
"I earned money myself to buy this for them."
"I hope this little bit helps."
"I feel so lucky to not have lost my things and am sorry for those you did."
"Wow! What amazing children we have on the prairie," Poole said. "Thank you to our parents for instilling a love of service and giving back to others. I couldn't be more proud!"
The boxes of donations and cases of water were donated to the Salvation Army on Friday, March 29.
