Papillion Mayor David Black visited 3rd graders at Patriot Elementary to give them a lesson in local government on September 6.
Black also discussed the impact citizens can have in their community, such as picking up trash if they dropped it.
The lesson connected to their first social studies unit which includes learning about the structure, functions, leaders and laws of local government.
3rd Grade Teacher Laurie Collins said her students were excited about having a "celebrity" such as Mayor Black visit their classroom.
"Having a public official come and speak to them brings the textbook to real life instead of them just reading about it," she explained.
Mayor Black did a great job of helping students make connections about how our local government plays a part in the life of a third grader, Collins said.
The students were engaged with the lesson and very attentive.
Great job 3rd graders!
