La Vista West student author section wildly popular with elementary students
(Samuel Oklouvi, Kalub Sons, and Lillian Vargas pose with their "published" work)
The librarian at La Vista West Elementary School have built a student authors section in the La Vista West Elementary library. The section is completely student-driven and was started when a few first-grade students wrote books and asked to add it to the library collection.
The idea caught on like wildfire and now students of all grade levels are writing and “publishing” their work to be checked out by other students in the library. Students are also illustrating work books and coloring books that students can keep.
Librarian Ashley Lyle reports that the student books are hot items and are often checked out often by other students. Media Para Joyce Williams has been busy "publishing" the books and even making extra copies of books and work books that are really popular.
