(Hickory Hill Elementary 6th graders pose with their donations for the NE Humane Society)
Furry four-legged friends (and other animals) at the Nebraska Humane Society will have plenty of new toys to play with, treats to eat, and soft blankets to cuddle thanks to the 6th graders at Hickory Hill Elementary who helped their school bring in donations over the past few weeks.
Instead of hosting a class holiday party, students got on a bus and used that time to travel to the Nebraska Humane Society to drop off their donations.
The donation drive in lieu of a holiday party has been a tradition for Hickory Hill Elementary 6th graders for more than 15 years.
"This community service project puts into practice what Hickory Hill embodies with our be safe, be respectful, be responsible and most of all be kind philosophy. The project demonstrates what we value at Hickory Hill and the Papillion Community," 6th grade teacher Cindy Smith said.
The students were able to collect 3,382 donations for the animals and $42.00 in monetary donations.
