PLSHS ProStart team earns top spot at state competition, moves on to next culinary competition

The PLSHS Prostart Culinary team dubbed as the "PL South Southside Troublemakers" earned a top 3 spot at the State ProStart Competition on March 5. The students also took home a trophy for Best Use of Local products. 

At the state competition, held at the MCC Ft. Omaha Campus, the team started cooking at 7:55 a.m. and had about an hour to complete their meals.

The team cooked the following: a creamy mushroom tomato risotta for an appetizer, a pork tenderloin with sauteed vegetables and polenta for the main entree, and hearts desire for the dessert (a chocolate shell filled with a light strawberry).

The win at the state competition moves them on to the Final 3 competition in Lincoln on Wednesday, March 11. The team will be cooking off against the 2 TCA (The Career Academy) teams in Lincoln. 

If the team earns the top spot at that competition, they will advance to Nationals in Washington D.C.
