Liberty Middle School Band Director Hiltje Peitz has been named this year's Jack R. Snider Young Band Director Award recipient.
The honor is given by the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association (NSBA) who considered young directors from all over the state.
Peitz will be given the award on Friday, March 6 in Lincoln at the annual NSBA convention for band directors.
To receive this award Peitz had to be nominated. The process included many recommendation letters from multiple colleagues in the district, her principal, a few students, and their parents.
Nominees had be to be current members of NSBA, currently teaching in the state, and in their third through seventh year of teaching.
“It feels amazing that my colleagues, students and their parents thought to nominate me for this award. I am humbled, excited, and so surprised,” Peitz said.
“I honestly just love my students and teaching my amazing students through music. This award is a pretty big deal in the band directing community and am just so honored to be receiving it.”
The award is named after Jack Snider, who was a nationally recognized musician and educator who worked to increase the number and excellence of bands at the university and across the state.
