World Civilizations Students Act Out Feudal Hierarchy at PLHS, 9/1/2026

Papillion La Vista High School students in Mr. Curry's World Civilizations class kicked off the new semester with a lesson they won't soon forget, using a hands-on role-play activity to explore the structure of feudalism in medieval society.

Rather than simply reading about the political and economic system that organized medieval life, students were assigned roles representing the feudal hierarchy — lords, vassals, knights, and serfs — and experienced the power dynamics of the system firsthand. Mr. Curry illustrated concepts like the distribution of crops and resources through classroom examples, with "lords" occupying elevated positions in the room to visually reinforce their standing at the top of the social order.

This kind of experiential learning helps students internalize abstract historical concepts in a way that static reading alone often cannot. By physically embodying different roles within the feudal system, students gain a clearer understanding of how power, land, and labor were distributed in medieval Europe — and why that structure shaped so much of the era's politics and economy.

Lessons like this reflect Papillion La Vista High School's commitment to engaging, memorable instruction that helps students build lasting connections to historical content, setting the tone for a semester of critical thinking about the civilizations that came before us.
