Trumble Park Students Sharpen Library Skills to Find Their Next Great Read, 9/25/2026

It takes skills to find the perfect read! Students at Trumble Park Elementary recently received a refresher from school librarian Mr. Schull on how to use the library catalogue to find books, an annual lesson that helps students become more confident and independent library users.

From the search bar to the shelf, Mr. Schull walked students through each step of the process. Students learned how to determine whether copies of a book are currently available in the library and how to locate a book using its call number, skills that will serve them in libraries of every size.

After the lesson, students put their new knowledge to work, practicing searches in the catalogue before heading into the stacks to find new books to enjoy. The hands-on practice helped reinforce each step and gave students the satisfaction of tracking down a book on their own.

Learning to navigate a library catalogue builds important information literacy skills, teaching students how to search, evaluate and locate resources independently. Lessons like this reflect the district's commitment to fostering a lifelong love of reading and equipping students with the tools they need to explore their interests.
