PLS Play Production Class Presents "The Yellow Boat" and Collects Donations for Children's Hospital, 10/1/2026

The Play Production class at Papillion La Vista South High School is presenting "The Yellow Boat" by David Saar, with performances October 1–3 at 7:00 p.m. The production invites audiences into an emotional and ultimately hopeful story, based on the true account of Saar's son's illness in the 1980s.

"The Yellow Boat" is both a joyful, playful exploration of a child's imagination and a moving reflection on the weight of illness and grief. Titan students take on the challenge of balancing those themes in a performance that is thoughtfully staged and deeply felt. Taking on material of this emotional depth asks young performers to bring maturity, empathy, and care to their work, and the community is encouraged to come out and support their efforts. Because some themes may be too heavy for younger children, families are encouraged to keep that in mind when planning to attend.

In conjunction with the production, the class is extending the story's message of compassion beyond the stage by collecting donations for the Nebraska Children's Hospital. Donations will be accepted at the door before each performance. Audience members are invited to bring new items, with tags or in original packaging, in the following categories: toys, stuffed animals, fleece blankets, baby blankets, books for all ages, craft kits, and coloring books.

By pairing a powerful theatrical experience with a service project that directly supports children and families facing illness, PLVS Play Production students are showing how the arts can inspire both reflection and action. The district is proud of these students for the hard work behind this production and for the care they are showing their community.
