Parkview Heights Artists Bring Depth to Their Landscapes, 9/5/2026

Students in Ms. Snader's art class at Parkview Heights Elementary are exploring the concept of perspective through landscape drawing. Using varying tree sizes to establish foreground, middle ground, and background, students are learning how artists create the illusion of depth on a flat page.

The exercise introduces young artists to a fundamental principle of visual art: objects appear larger when they are closer to the viewer and smaller as they recede into the distance. By applying this concept to trees within a single landscape, students practice translating an abstract idea into a concrete, hands-on drawing technique.

Lessons like this one help build a foundation in visual and spatial reasoning that extends beyond the art room. Learning to perceive and represent depth supports skills students will draw on in other subjects, from geometry to design.

Through project-based art instruction, Parkview Heights Elementary continues to give students creative outlets to explore new techniques while strengthening their observational and critical thinking skills.
