More Than 900 First Graders Climb Behind the Wheel at Annual Vehicle Day, 9/24/2026

Beep beep! More than 900 first grade students from across Papillion La Vista Community Schools climbed behind the wheel at the district's annual Vehicle Day. Students had the chance to explore a fire truck, a semi, a police car and many other vehicles, pushing buttons, honking horns and getting an up-close look at the tools local businesses and community services use every day.
Vehicle Day introduces students to a variety of businesses and community organizations and the goods and services they provide. Local organizational partners and community leaders showcased their vehicles as an opportunity to explain their work, and many engaged students with activities or equipment that brought their jobs to life.

While the event is fun (and noisy), it is also rooted in first grade curriculum. The field trip supports students as they learn about economics through the concepts of resources, goods and services, helping them see how the businesses and organizations in their own community work together to meet people's needs.
Vehicle Day would not be possible without the support of PLCS community partners through PLC Schools Cooperation BEST, the district's business-education partnership. The district extends a huge thank you to every partner who participated and took time to engage with curious students. Thanks also go to the PLCS academy students who volunteered at the event to supervise, lift, explain and keep things running smoothly, giving back while modeling leadership for the district's youngest learners.
