Papillion La Vista High School and Papillion La Vista South High School faced off in the annual Unified Basketball rivalry game last week, delivering a thrilling contest that brought out some of the best of interscholastic competition — and sportsmanship. The beloved annual tradition drew a large crowd of students and community members who filled the gym with energy and enthusiasm.

The game itself lived up to its billing. The two teams traded leads throughout, building to a dramatic final minute in which the Titans surged ahead, only for the Monarchs to answer with a buzzer-beating shot to tie the game. Both schools' Unified Cheer teams added to the electric atmosphere, as did the Monarch pep band. In the spirit of Unified Sports, the two teams shared the victory — a fitting conclusion to an intensely competitive and joyful afternoon.

Unified Sports programs pair student athletes with and without disabilities to compete alongside one another, creating inclusive opportunities for connection, teamwork, and athletic achievement. The rivalry game between PLHS and PLSHS has grown into one of the most anticipated events on the district's athletic calendar, and this year's contest was a standout example of what Unified competition looks like at its best.
