The Papillion La Vista South High School volleyball team demonstrated what championship character looks like off the court on Monday morning when they stood in the rain to welcome students arriving at Walnut Creek Elementary School. The state champions, still celebrating their recent tournament victory, chose to spend their morning showing Wildcat elementary students the importance of showing up every day, regardless of circumstances.

The surprise visit provided Walnut Creek students with powerful role models who embody the district's "You Belong Here" message. By braving inclement weather to greet elementary students at the start of their school day, the high school athletes showed younger students that commitment and dedication extend beyond sports competitions. Their presence reinforced the message that every school day matters and that attendance is a key factor in academic success and personal growth.

These intergenerational connections within the district help create a sense of community that spans from elementary through high school. When high school students take time to connect with younger students, they provide inspiration and demonstrate the character traits that lead to success both in athletics and in life. The volleyball team's willingness to stand in the rain also modeled resilience and the importance of following through on commitments, regardless of challenging conditions.

Papillion La Vista Community Schools values these opportunities for students across different schools and grade levels to connect, fostering a district-wide culture where every student feels welcomed, valued, and motivated to attend school each day.
