Sarpy Community YMCA Leads Active Enrichment Session at PLCS Summer School, 6/5/2026
Jackie Connealy

The Sarpy Community YMCA brought movement and energy to PLCS Summer School on June 5, leading students through a lively enrichment session designed to get bodies moving and minds engaged. The visit is one of several community partnerships coordinated through PLC Schools Cooperation BEST that have highlighted the summer program's first week.

YMCA staff guided students through a creative movement session that incorporated a wide range of physical activities — hopping, weaving, running, dancing, and stretching — all designed to promote physical wellness and joyful, active participation. The session offered a dynamic break from seated instruction and gave students the chance to channel their energy in a structured, playful environment.

Research consistently supports the connection between physical activity and academic engagement, and enrichment sessions like the YMCA's visit reflect a summer school philosophy that values the whole student — not just academic skills in isolation. By weaving movement and wellness into the program's daily rhythm, PLCS reinforces its commitment to supporting students' physical and emotional well-being alongside their learning.

PLC Schools Cooperation BEST continues to make these community connections possible, pairing local organizations with PLCS classrooms in ways that directly benefit students. The first week of Summer School has showcased how partnerships with businesses and nonprofits alike can transform the summer learning experience into something engaging, memorable, and enriching for every participant.
