PLCS Summer School Kicks Off with Welcome from Students, Staff, and Community Partners, 6/1/2026
Jackie Connealy

Papillion La Vista Community Schools welcomed students to the first day of Summer School on June 1 with an energetic celebration that brought together high school performance groups, community mascots, and local business partners. The festivities set a positive tone for the program as students arrived to cheering crowds and school spirit.

Leading the welcome were performance groups from both PLCS high schools: the Papillion La Vista High School pep band, cheer team, and dance team, along with the Papillion La Vista South High School cheer and dance teams. The groups lined up to greet incoming students with enthusiasm, creating a first-day atmosphere more reminiscent of a pep rally than a traditional summer program.

Adding to the excitement, mascots from three community partners — Chick-fil-A Papillion, the Omaha Storm Chasers, and Runza Restaurants — joined the celebration through the district's PLC Schools Cooperation BEST program. BEST (Business Education Student Teams) facilitates partnerships between local businesses and PLCS, connecting students with community organizations that enrich and extend their educational experience. The presence of these partners on the first day of summer school underscored the program's deep roots in community collaboration.

The district also recognized the PLCS staff members who will guide and support summer school students throughout the coming month. Their dedication ensures that the academic and enrichment opportunities offered during the summer session remain meaningful, engaging, and impactful for every learner who walks through the doors.
