PLCS Students Build Cross-Campus Connections Through Construction Project, 2/5/2026
Jackie Vote

Students in Mr. Campbell's Construction class at Papillion La Vista South High School are putting their classroom learning into practice while strengthening connections across the district. This semester, the Titans are constructing four custom picnic tables designed specifically for Golden Hills Elementary School, creating functional outdoor learning spaces for the younger Eagles students.

The project provides Mr. Campbell's students with hands-on experience in measurement, carpentry techniques, tool safety, and project planning—all essential skills in the construction trades. By working on a real-world application with an authentic audience, students gain valuable experience that mirrors professional construction projects while contributing something meaningful to their school community. The versatile picnic table designs were created to accommodate various uses at Golden Hills, from outdoor classroom instruction to lunch settings and small group collaborative work.

This cross-campus collaboration exemplifies the district's commitment to experiential learning and community building. High school Career Academy programs like Construction provide students with industry-relevant skills while fostering a culture of service and connection across PLCS campuses. The project allows older students to see the direct impact of their work on younger learners, reinforcing the importance of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

These types of meaningful partnerships between high schools and elementary schools create lasting value for the entire PLCS community, demonstrating how technical education serves both individual student growth and collective district needs.
