Schools across Papillion La Vista Community Schools came together last week for Veterans Day observances that combined moving assemblies, student performances, and recognition ceremonies to honor veterans and active-duty service members throughout the community. The district-wide celebrations provided students with meaningful opportunities to express gratitude while learning about military service and sacrifice.

PLCS NJROTC cadets played central roles in many of the Veterans Day programs, participating in assemblies that featured ceremonial elements and educational components about military service. Students from various schools contributed instrumental and vocal performances of patriotic songs, creating emotional moments that connected performers and audiences across generations. These performances allowed students to develop their musical talents while contributing to community events that honored those who have served in the armed forces.

The coordinated Veterans Day observances reflect PLCS's designation as a Purple Star community, a statewide recognition that acknowledges schools and districts demonstrating exceptional commitment to supporting military-connected students and families. Through assemblies, performances, and ongoing support programs, PLCS creates environments where military families feel welcomed and appreciated throughout the school year, not just during designated recognition days.

The district's comprehensive approach to Veterans Day programming provides students with age-appropriate ways to understand military service while honoring the veterans and active-duty service members within PLCS families. These celebrations strengthen connections between schools and military families while teaching all students about civic responsibility, gratitude, and community service.
