More than 900 first grade students from across Papillion La Vista Community Schools participated in the district's annual Vehicle Day, an immersive field trip experience that brings economics education to life through hands-on exploration of community vehicles and services. Students had opportunities to climb into fire trucks, semi-trailers, police cars, and various other specialized vehicles while learning about the businesses and organizations that serve their community.

The event serves as a practical introduction to economic concepts, helping young learners understand how different businesses provide goods and services to their community. Local organizational partners and community leaders showcased their vehicles while explaining their roles and allowing students to interact with specialized equipment. This direct engagement helps students connect abstract economic principles with real-world applications they can observe in their daily lives.

Vehicle Day exemplifies the strong partnerships between Papillion La Vista Community Schools and local businesses, organizations, and service providers who generously donate their time to support educational initiatives. These community connections provide authentic learning experiences that extend far beyond traditional classroom instruction while building relationships between students and the professionals who serve their neighborhoods.

The annual event supports first grade curriculum standards in social studies and economics while fostering appreciation for the diverse careers and services that contribute to a functioning community. These engaging, hands-on experiences help young learners develop understanding of civic responsibility and community interconnection.
