Kindergarten students at G. Stanley Hall Elementary School received a special weather education experience on February 23, 2026, when KETV NewsWatch 7 Meteorologist Caitlin Harvey visited their classrooms to bring their science weather unit to life. Harvey's visit gave students a firsthand look at the science behind the weather they experience every day, reinforcing classroom learning with real-world expertise.

During her visit, Harvey introduced students to essential Midwest weather safety concepts, including the memorable safety reminder: "When it roars, go indoors!" — a simple but powerful message about seeking shelter during thunderstorms. Her presentation aligned directly with the students' ongoing science studies, deepening their understanding of weather patterns and storm safety in an age-appropriate, engaging way.

Beyond weather safety, Harvey's visit offered an inspiring career connection for the youngest learners in the district. She shared that a love of both math and science can lead to a career in meteorology, encouraging students to see academic subjects as gateways to exciting professional possibilities. Harvey also noted that she chose to return to the Midwest specifically because of the region's dynamic and ever-changing weather — a point of local pride that resonated with her young audience.

Community partnerships like this one reflect the Papillion La Vista Community Schools district's commitment to connecting classroom learning with real-world professionals and experiences. By bringing experts into the building, PLCS helps students see the relevance of what they are learning while planting the seeds of curiosity and career aspiration from the very earliest years of their education. #PLCSMixtape #WeArePLCS
