Christopher Villarre

Welcome to our Board Meeting Bulletin series, where we highlight key takeaways from each board meeting to keep our community informed and engaged with the latest developments in our school district.

Middle School Transitions Excellence: Assistant principals from all three middle schools presented their comprehensive approach to helping students transition into and out of middle school. The program includes sixth grade registration visits, Move Up Day in May, parent orientation nights, and specialized support for students with unique needs. The presentation emphasized the importance of the two-year middle school experience in preparing students for high school success.

2026-27 Calendar Approved: The board approved the academic calendar for 2026-27, featuring 173 elementary and 175 secondary student days. School begins August 12, 2026 for K-7 and 9th grade students, with the school year ending May 21, 2027. Spring break is scheduled for March 22-26, 2027, with built-in weather makeup days planned throughout the spring.

Bond Renovations Update: BCDM Architects presented renovation plans for Patriot and Walnut Creek elementary schools, the final projects from the 2023 bond initiative. Both schools will receive security vestibule upgrades, kitchen additions for finishing kitchens, and comprehensive interior refreshes. Construction begins spring 2026 with completion targeted for summer 2027.

Superintendent Evaluation: The board conducted Dr. Rikli's mid-year performance review, assessing progress on five strategic goals: implementing the new strategic planning process, enhancing communication strategies, curriculum improvements, staff recruitment and retention, and bond project implementation. The evaluation reflects the board's commitment to continuous improvement and accountability.
