Christopher Villarre

Welcome to our Board Meeting Bulletin series, where we highlight key takeaways from each board meeting to keep our community informed and engaged with the latest developments in our school district.

AP Program Success at Papillion La Vista High School: The high school presented impressive data on their Advanced Placement program, demonstrating exceptional student achievement. Nearly 50% of students are enrolled in AP courses, with pass rates significantly exceeding national averages. The program offers 18 different AP courses, with 50% of sophomores taking AP World History. Students earned substantial college credit hours last year, resulting in significant tuition savings for families. The presentation emphasized the program's role in preparing students for college success through rigorous coursework and development of critical thinking skills.

Bond Project Progress: The district provided comprehensive updates on the 2023 bond facility improvements. Completed projects include renovations at Tara Heights, Trumble Park, Parkview Heights, and Hickory Hill Elementary schools, along with the new YATP building and athletic facility improvements at both middle schools. Current construction continues at La Vista Middle School (completion summer 2026), Papillion Middle School (completion summer 2026), Bell Elementary, and Portal Elementary. The new Lincoln View Elementary is scheduled for June 1, 2025 completion, with construction ahead of schedule.

Technology Infrastructure Upgrade: The board discussed the upcoming replacement of classified staff desktop computers as part of the district's six-year technology refresh cycle. The current devices were purchased in 2019 and are scheduled for replacement. The technology team is working with multiple vendors to secure proposals for Windows 11 devices, with formal approval anticipated at the November 10 board meeting.

Community Closet Impact: The PLCS Community Closet continues removing barriers to learning by providing essential clothing and personal care items to families. The program has served 356 families in the first quarter of this school year alone, distributing over 124,000 items since inception. The recent winter coat event distributed 567 coats and 1,500 winter accessories in just two hours. The program now offers private shopping appointments in addition to large distribution events, ensuring families receive needed support in a comfortable setting.
