Bell Elementary Pinwheels Honor Military-Affiliated Students for Purple Up Day, 4/16/2026

Bell Elementary School found a creative and visible way to celebrate Purple Up Day this year, lining the school's property with purple pinwheels — one for each military-affiliated student enrolled at the school. The display served as a colorful tribute to these students and a public declaration of the school's commitment to the families who serve.

The pinwheel installation is the kind of visible, community-facing gesture that reinforces Bell's standing as a Purple Star School, a distinction shared by every campus in Papillion La Vista Community Schools. The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that go beyond standard enrollment support to actively meet the needs of military families — acknowledging the particular challenges of frequent relocations, parental deployments, and the emotional demands placed on children navigating those transitions.

Purple Up Day falls each April during the Month of the Military Child, a national observance that draws attention to the resilience and sacrifice of young people in military households. At Bell and across PLCS, the occasion is an opportunity to make those students feel genuinely seen and celebrated within their school community. The row of spinning purple pinwheels offered a simple but powerful visual message: every one of these students matters, and this school is proud to support them.
