Sixth Graders Compete in Annual Track Meets at Foundation Field, 5/15/2025
Christopher Villarre

Sixth grade students from across the district recently participated in the annual sixth grade track meets held at Foundation Field. The events were spread across two days, with north side elementary schools competing on Tuesday under sunny skies and south side schools braving windy conditions on Thursday.

Students participated in a wide variety of traditional track and field events, including various running distances, long jump, and throwing competitions. For many students, this marked their first experience with organized track and field, providing an introduction to athletics they might continue in middle school.

The annual event serves multiple purposes beyond physical activity, giving students opportunities to demonstrate perseverance, practice good sportsmanship, and support their classmates. Teachers noted the positive atmosphere as students cheered for their peers and celebrated personal achievements regardless of placement.

The track meets represent a cherished tradition for PLCS sixth graders, offering a memorable capstone experience as they prepare to transition to middle school in the fall. The district-wide event also provides a unique opportunity for students from different elementary schools to gather before many become classmates at the middle school level.
