Papillion La Vista Community Schools (PLCS) is excited to announce a significant boost to its skilled trades education program, thanks to a generous donation from GROW SARPY, Black Hills Energy, and numerous community partners. Students in the Introduction to Skilled & Technical Trades classes at Papillion La Vista South High School recently received construction kits, enhancing their hands-on learning experience. Papillion La Vista High School will receive their construction kits later in the week.

This initiative is part of our district's Cooperation BEST program, which aims to "better educate students for tomorrow" by fostering connections between our classrooms and local businesses. The program aligns perfectly with our commitment to preparing students for diverse career paths, including the vital field of skilled trades.

Representatives from GROW SARPY and Black Hills Energy, including Laura, Meredith, Jen, and Dustin, visited our classrooms to personally deliver the kits and engage with students. They shared valuable insights about career opportunities in construction and related industries, providing our students with real-world perspectives on potential future careers.

Construction Kits

The construction kits are part of a larger initiative by GROW SARPY and community leaders, who assembled 1,180 kits for students participating in trade classes across the area for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This effort aims to spark interest in skilled trades and familiarize students with local companies and job opportunities.

We are grateful for the wide-ranging support from our community. The list of donors includes major corporations like Google and Meta, local construction firms such as Roloff Construction and MCL Construction, public utilities, and educational institutions including Metropolitan Community College. This broad support underscores the community's commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled workers.

PLCS would like to extend a special thank you to all the organizations involved in this initiative. Their support not only provides our students with valuable resources but also demonstrates the strong partnership between our schools and the local business community. This collaboration is crucial in ensuring our students are well-prepared for the diverse opportunities awaiting them after graduation.
