The Papillion La Vista Community Schools' Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program recently hosted its second annual Athletic Challenge, bringing together JROTC units from various military branches for a day of rigorous competition and team building.
The event drew participation from Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps JROTC units, including teams from outside Nebraska. Competing in six-person teams, cadets faced a comprehensive series of physical and mental challenges designed to build camaraderie and develop leadership skills. The PLCS NJROTC fielded multiple teams, including both co-ed and all-female squads, demonstrating the program's commitment to inclusivity.
Participants tackled a demanding course of events that included traditional fitness challenges such as pull-ups, sit-ups, and push-ups, along with a one-mile run and a 6x100-yard shuttle relay. The competition also featured a modified USMC Combat Fitness Assessment, where cadets demonstrated their abilities in the high crawl, ammunition can press, buddy drag, and fireman's carry.
The Athletic Challenge exemplifies the dedication and discipline cultivated within the PLCS NJROTC program, which serves students from both Papillion La Vista High School and Papillion La Vista South High School. Through events like these, cadets develop physical fitness, leadership skills, and a strong sense of duty while building connections with fellow JROTC units from across the region.
