Papillion La Vista Community Schools honored its dedicated substitute teachers at yesterday's Sub Appreciation Breakfast, while announcing the opening of nominations for the prestigious 2025 Substitute of the Year award.
The celebration began with a welcome address from Superintendent Dr. Andy Rikli, joined by Board Member Ms. Wood, followed by professional development sessions designed to enhance classroom effectiveness. Substitutes enjoyed breakfast, giveaways, and valuable networking opportunities with fellow educators and district staff.
The 2025 Greatness Awards are now accepting nominations for Substitute of the Year through April 30, 2025. Nominations can be submitted at www.plcschools.org/greatsubs. Eligible nominees must have served the district for four or more years and demonstrated:
- Outstanding effectiveness in working with students
- Consistent willingness to help when needed
- A positive attitude
- Exemplary job performance
Thanks to generous funding from the Papillion La Vista Community Schools Foundation, award winners will receive recognition and a cash prize. The nomination process requires detailed information, short answer responses, and two letters of recommendation.
Substitute teachers play a critical role in maintaining the district's educational mission, stepping in to provide seamless instruction and support for students throughout the school year. Their commitment to PLCS students and willingness to serve at a moment's notice helps ensure that learning continues uninterrupted.
