Student musicians selected for the districtwide 8th Grade Honor Band recently participated in a special workshop and performance opportunity under the direction of Dr. Karen Fannin, the Director of the School of Music at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO).

The workshop provided these talented middle school musicians with advanced instruction and performance techniques from a university-level director, enhancing their musical education beyond regular classroom experiences. Following the workshop sessions, the Honor Band presented a successful concert hosted at Liberty Middle School.

The performance showcased the students' hard work and musical growth, featuring challenging band literature that highlighted the ensemble's capabilities. Family members, district staff, and community members were treated to an impressive demonstration of these young musicians' talents and the results of their dedicated practice.

The district extends special recognition to the middle school band directors who support these students throughout the year: Zac Konrad from Papillion Middle School, Hiltje Peitz from Liberty Middle School, and Hannah Fisher from La Vista Middle School. These dedicated educators provide the foundational instruction that prepares students for advanced opportunities like the Honor Band program.
