Liberty Middle School's Science Club celebrated the fall season with an exciting and educational October meeting. The club members engaged in a series of pumpkin-themed experiments, combining seasonal fun with hands-on learning about chemical reactions.
The Science Club, which meets before regular school hours, conducted three different experiments to explore various chemical processes. These activities provided students with practical experience in scientific methodology and observation.
For the grand finale, Ms. Myers, the club advisor, took the students outside for a spectacular demonstration. In a controlled environment, she showed how the combination of calcium carbide and water creates acetylene gas. When ignited, this gas buildup produced an impressive explosion.
The students were visibly impressed by the demonstration, which served as an engaging way to illustrate chemical reactions and their potential effects.
This type of hands-on learning experience exemplifies the district's commitment to fostering curiosity and scientific literacy among our students. The Science Club continues to be a popular extracurricular activity, encouraging middle schoolers to explore the wonders of the scientific world around them.
