Construction students at Papillion La Vista South High School recently benefited from an exceptional hands-on learning opportunity through collaboration with industry professionals to complete a significant improvement to the school's athletic facilities. The project involved creating a new concrete pad behind the Titan softball dugout, providing students with practical experience in commercial construction techniques while delivering a lasting enhancement to the school's softball complex.
Working alongside experienced professionals from CL Construction, students participated in each phase of the concrete installation process. The comprehensive experience began with site preparation, including tearout of existing materials and proper disposal techniques. Students then learned about the critical importance of precise grading to ensure proper drainage and structural integrity before moving on to constructing the wooden formwork that would shape the final concrete structure.
The educational experience culminated with the concrete pour itself, where students observed and assisted with the delivery, placement, and leveling of the material. Throughout the process, CL Construction professionals provided expert guidance and instruction, sharing industry best practices and safety protocols while allowing students to engage in meaningful ways with the actual construction work.
The project was made possible through generous community support, with CL Construction donating all labor and equipment required for the installation. Additionally, their partner company, Consolidated Concrete, contributed the concrete materials needed to complete the project. This collaboration exemplifies the valuable partnerships between Papillion La Vista Community Schools and local businesses that enhance educational opportunities while meeting practical needs within the district.
