Construction Progressing on New Young Adult Transition Program (YATP) Building, 3/3/2025
Christopher Villarre

Construction is well underway on the new Papillion La Vista Community Schools Young Adult Transition Program (YATP) building. PLCS officials recently toured the facility, which is being built adjacent to Liberty Middle School on a dedicated lot specifically chosen to provide an ideal learning environment.

The project is expected to reach significant milestones soon, with drywall installation beginning as plumbing and electrical work nears completion. Brick exterior work is also scheduled to commence in the coming weeks, which will give the building its finished appearance as construction continues to progress according to schedule.

Designed to serve students ages 18-21 with special needs, the spacious facility will include classrooms, kitchen space, a commons area, and other amenities specifically tailored to support life skills training and educational programming. The thoughtfully designed spaces will allow for both individual instruction and group activities that prepare students for greater independence.

The YATP program, which outgrew its previous location and is temporarily housed in Liberty Middle School, will have a permanent home designed specifically to meet the needs of its students. Program administrators have worked closely with architects and construction teams to ensure the new facility incorporates features that enhance learning opportunities for young adults with special needs.

The new building is part of the Bond Issue approved by Papillion La Vista voters in 2023, demonstrating the community's commitment to supporting all students. Sampson Construction is managing the project that remains on schedule, with completion anticipated in time for students to benefit from the new facility in the coming school year.
