As American Education Week 2024 comes to a close, Papillion La Vista Community Schools celebrated its strong community partnerships by highlighting testimonials from key local leaders who champion public education through the I <3 Public Schools campaign.
Lee Denker, Executive Director of the Papillion La Vista Community Schools Foundation, emphasized the multi-generational impact of the district. "Many families move to PLCS because of our outstanding public schools," Denker shared. "I'm thankful that my grandparents made Papillion their home as newlyweds, starting three generations of proud PLCS graduates. And families like ours keep arriving because the reputation for educational excellence here grows stronger every day. I am PLCS Proud and I absolutely love our public schools!"
Papillion Police Department Chief Chris Whitted highlighted the crucial partnership between law enforcement and education. "PPD is proud to partner with PLCS Public Schools to help promote safety, trust, and positive youth development in our community," Chief Whitted said. He specifically noted the department's School Resource Officer program, which helps build meaningful relationships and ensures a safe learning environment. "Public schools make education accessible to all children and provide a diverse and inclusive environment to help every child reach their full potential."
Martie Cordaro, President of both Union Omaha and the Omaha Storm Chasers, praised the district's role in community development. "Public schools are the backbone of any region, and that is absolutely the case with Papillion-La Vista Community Schools in the community the Omaha Storm Chasers and Union Omaha call home," Cordaro stated. He particularly noted the district's commitment to providing quality education regardless of student background, adding, "I'm thankful Werner Park is embedded in a community where the public schools provide so many opportunities for students to thrive both in the classroom and outside of it with extracurricular activities."
The City of La Vista Government rounded out the testimonials by emphasizing the district's role in shaping the community's future. "The La Vista community wouldn't be what it is today without PLCS," city officials shared. "The foundation for the future is always the next generation, and with the rigorous academic programs, strong role models, and plenty of extra circular opportunities, our future is bright!" They also expressed gratitude for PLCS employees' dedication to serving students daily.
