Christopher Villarre

Welcome to our Board Meeting Bulletin series, where we highlight key takeaways from each board meeting to keep our community informed and engaged with the latest developments in our school district.

PLCS Mentoring Program

New Staff Mentoring Program: The district presented its enhanced mentoring program, currently supporting 93 active mentors. The program features specialized support for different content areas, professional development opportunities, and targeted assistance for both new teachers and experienced teachers new to the district. This initiative reflects the district's commitment to supporting educators and maintaining high-quality instruction through comprehensive professional development.

Superintendent Performance Goals: The board approved Dr. Rikli's 2024-25 performance goals, focusing on five strategic areas: district strategic planning, communication and engagement strategies, curriculum and technology enhancement, staff recruitment and retention, and bond project implementation. These comprehensive goals align with the district's mission to provide excellence in education while maintaining strong community connections.

Papillion Middle School

Bond Project Approval: The board approved the Papillion Middle School renovation project with a guaranteed maximum price of $8,871,412 from Sampson Construction. The project, scheduled to begin in summer 2025, could span 2-3 summers and represents a significant investment in upgrading school facilities. This approval demonstrates the district's commitment to implementing the 2023 bond projects efficiently and effectively.

School Building Bonds Authorization: The board authorized the issuance of $40 million in general obligation school building bonds, marking the second installment of funding from the May 2023 bond election. With interest rates expected to be under 4%, lower than the previous year's 5%, this timing reflects prudent financial management. This funding will support ongoing facility improvements and safety projects across the district.

Offutt Air Force Base

Military Partnership Update: Lt. Colonel Joseph Anderson reported on several initiatives strengthening the connection between Offutt Air Force Base and the district. Updates included an upcoming MC3 seminar on school transitions for military families, a successful Halloween extravaganza serving over 1,100 children, and ongoing efforts to increase Purple Star designated schools. These initiatives demonstrate the district's commitment to supporting military families and fostering community partnerships.
