Welcome to our Board Meeting Bulletin series, where we highlight key takeaways from each board meeting to keep our community informed and engaged with the latest developments in our school district.
Student Achievement Data: The district's 2023-24 performance continues to exceed state and national averages on standardized assessments. Students demonstrated strong achievement in language arts, math, and science across all tested grade levels. The district maintained its "Great" classification under Nebraska's AQuESTT accountability system. Graduation rates remain consistent around 95%, reflecting the district's commitment to student success through multiple measures of achievement and growth.
South High School Construction Approval: The Board approved the Papillion La Vista South High School addition project, awarding a guaranteed maximum price of $2,376,354 to Boyd Jones Construction. The project includes a new PE classroom addition with turf space, expanded secure entry vestibule, and fine arts storage space. Construction will begin in spring 2025 with completion targeted for December 2025, maintaining comparable facilities between the district's high schools.
Upcoming Bond Projects Preview: BCDM Architects presented designs for two major 2023 bond projects. The PLHS addition will expand athletics facilities and double the size of existing bleachers, while Portal Elementary renovations include a new kindergarten wing and expanded kitchen facilities. Both projects incorporate enhanced security features and updated learning spaces. These projects continue the systematic implementation of improvements approved by voters in the 2023 bond initiative.
Superintendent Evaluation & Contract: Following completion of Dr. Rikli's annual performance evaluation, the board unanimously approved extending his contract through June 30, 2028. The extension maintains current contract terms and reflects the board's continued confidence in district leadership. The evaluation process included comprehensive review of district goals, strategic initiatives, and leadership effectiveness in maintaining the district's commitment to educational excellence.
Legislative Representation: The board renewed its partnership with Catalyst Public Affairs and Tim Gay for legislative representation, maintaining the annual rate of $39,000. This relationship ensures the district maintains an active voice in state education policy and funding discussions. Gay, a former state senator and district resident, provides vital connections and expertise as the district navigates legislative matters affecting public education.
Farewell to Board Member: The board honored Valerie Fisher at her final meeting, celebrating 24 years of dedicated service to the district. During her tenure, Fisher received the prestigious Ann Mactier award for outstanding board service and played instrumental roles in numerous district initiatives, including hiring the current superintendent. Her leadership helped shape the district's commitment to educational excellence and strategic growth.
