Board Meeting Bulletin, 7/28/2025

Welcome to our Board Meeting Bulletin series, where we highlight key takeaways from each board meeting to keep our community informed and engaged with the latest developments in our school district.

Policy Updates Approved

Policy Series 6000 - Instruction: The Board approved updates to several instructional policies:

  • Policy 6404 (Parent Involvement): Added reference to Policy 5213 for enhanced transparency with student surveys and strengthened parental rights protections
  • Policy 6702 (Continuous Improvement): Updated language from Cognia to Nebraska Department of Education Continuous Improvement Process
  • Policy 6203 (Driver's Education): Policy eliminated as the program is now outsourced through ESU#3
  • Policy 6901 (Data Breach Response): New policy established to address data security procedures and protocols

Elementary School 17 Developments

Boundary Approval: Following community input sessions with approximately 40 parents/guardians, the Board approved Elementary 17 boundary concept 2. This creates balanced enrollment projections between Prairie Queen Elementary (300-340 students) and Elementary 17 (280-340 students) through 2029-30. Grandfathering provisions were approved for 5th and 6th graders (2026-27) and active military families, reflecting the district's commitment to Purple Star designation and supporting military families.

School Naming: After extensive discussion about the significance and uniqueness of the name, the Board approved Lincoln View Elementary School as the official name for Elementary School 17, scheduled to open in the 2026-27 school year. The name honors both the geographic connection to Lincoln Road and the patriotic connection to our state capital.

Labor Relations Updates

Maintenance Contract: The district successfully negotiated a two-year agreement with maintenance staff, approved unanimously by SEIU Local 226 members. Key provisions include wage increases of 3.94% in year one and 3.8% in year two, uniform allowance increased from $275 to $300, and enhanced leave benefits including increased sellback options and improved bereavement leave.

Custodial/Warehouse Contract: Negotiations continue after the tentative agreement was rejected by one vote. Dr. Settles reported that further meetings will be necessary, and the current contract will continue past its August 31st expiration date while negotiations proceed.

District Land Discussion

The Board discussed the potential sale of approximately 1.17 acres near Anderson Grove Elementary to Foundation Development LLC for $35,000. The land would be used for senior living development, with further discussion planned for the Buildings, Grounds, and Finance committee meeting.

These are just a few of the topics discussed during our recent board meeting. For full access to agendas and minutes, please visit our website. Broadcast recordings of the meetings are also available on our YouTube channel.
