Welcome to our Board Meeting Bulletin series, where we highlight key takeaways from each board meeting to keep our community informed and engaged with the latest developments in our school district.
BRAPPP Array Presentation: Student council representatives from Ashbury, Prairie Queen, Rumsey Station, Portal, Patriot, and Bell elementary schools shared their community service initiatives. The presentation highlighted the students' commitment to giving back through various projects supporting their local community. Students showcased their leadership by organizing food drives, collecting hygiene products, supporting animal shelters, and creating fundraising events that demonstrate their dedication to making a positive impact.
Mass Communication System Update: The district received an update on its mass communication system. After initially exploring alternatives when Finalsite suggested discontinuing key products, the company presented a revised product roadmap in February 2025. The district will transition to Messages XR Enterprise, which offers enhanced user interfaces and backend security. The new system includes plans for a mobile app with two-way communication features, scheduled for implementation in fall 2026. Finalsite agreed to maintain flat pricing and provide comprehensive staff training throughout the transition.
Wireless Network System Hardware and Software: The district approved entering into an agreement with CDW-G to purchase wireless network system hardware and software. After receiving proposals from six vendors, the board selected CDW-G's proposal with Cisco Networks hardware/software. The total project cost is $1,169,533.63, with the E-Rate program providing $523,391.49 in funding assistance.
Foundation Field Turf Replacement: The board approved the replacement of the FieldTurf at Foundation Field for $683,198.30 from Midwest FieldTurf. The project includes a cool material option and will replace the turf that was last updated in 2013. This investment maintains the quality of the district's athletic facilities and ensures optimal conditions for student activities.
Legislative Update: The board received an update on current legislative activities affecting education. Several bills were discussed, including potential changes to special election processes, special education enrollment options, state funding adjustments, and requirements for school library online catalogs. The district continues to actively monitor and engage with legislative developments that may impact public education.
