In a remarkable display of community engagement, first grade students at Anderson Grove Elementary recently organized and executed a successful donation drive for the Nebraska Humane Society, demonstrating how PLCS students actively contribute to their community.
The initiative emerged from the first grade social studies curriculum, which emphasizes the importance of community involvement and civic responsibility. Under the guidance of their teacher, Ms. Seeley, students explored various ways to make meaningful contributions to their local community.
After careful consideration, the class chose to support the Nebraska Humane Society. Ms. Seeley worked with students to research the organization's specific needs, helping them understand how even small donations can make a significant impact. The class then created informative posters listing needed items, including paper towel rolls, blankets, towels, ice cream buckets, and bags.
The week-long collection drive saw enthusiastic participation from Anderson Grove families, resulting in several boxes of essential supplies. Ms. Seeley personally delivered the collected items to the Nebraska Humane Society, where they will directly benefit animals in need.
This project exemplifies the district's commitment to fostering civic responsibility and community engagement from an early age, while teaching students valuable lessons about empathy, organization, and the importance of giving back to their community.
