Hours of Work
Paraprofessional Staff, including Food Service Worker I, work part-time hours, generally between two and six hours per day. Paraprofessional staff work only on days when students are in session, with the exception of required professional development. Unpaid 30-minute lunch breaks are scheduled depending on the number of hours worked per day. Schedules are determined at the building level by the building administrator.
Accumulated Leave
Sick and personal leave accumulates for a total of one day per month worked plus one. Three will be available for personal leave and the remaining is available for sick leave.
Training
All paraprofessional staff must complete Level I district training. Additional training may be provided at the building/district levels.
2024- 25 Starting Wages
Special Education Paraprofessional - $16.67
Instructional Paraprofessional - $15.62
EL & Title I Instructional Paraprofessional - $16.12
Health Paraprofessional - $16.67
Food Service I - $15.62
Food Service II - $16.75
Van Rider - $16.42
A 3% salary increase is given to paraprofessionals after 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of consecutive service to the district. A 4% salary increase is given to paraprofessionals after 25, 30 and 35 years of consecutive service to the district.
Retirement
By Nebraska State Law, employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week must join the Nebraska Public Schools Retirement System. The employee contribution rate is 9.78% of your gross salary and this amount will be deducted from your monthly paycheck. Papillion La Vista Community Schools is required to contribute a 101% “match”, making our contribution rate 9.8778% of your gross salary. You will be fully vested after 5 years of employment with PLCS.
Health Insurance
Classified employees who work a minimum of 17.5 hours per week to a maximum of 30 hours per week and are not covered by the clerical, custodial, or maintenance negotiated agreements, may participate in the district health insurance program. Our health insurance carrier is Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. The employee pays 100% of the health premium.

Substitute Teacher Staff
Thank you for your interest in substitute employment with Papillion La Vista Community Schools. Substitute teachers are important to the success of the total school program and are expected to perform in place of the regular teacher as directed by the Principal or designee. It is important that substitute teachers carry out all duties assigned to facilitate the instructional process and provide a safe, educationally productive environment in the classroom.

Absence Management
- Upon completion of all paperwork the applicant is entered into Absence Management
- Absence management allows substitutes to review current assignments, search for available jobs, cancel a job, manage their calendar, review their personal information and more.
- Absence Management will place calls to substitutes to offer jobs.

Substitute Teacher Rate of Pay:
- $180 per day
- $190 per day for long term positions (over 2 weeks)
Teaching Certificates
All applicants must hold a current Nebraska Teaching Certificate or be eligible for a Local Substitute Certificate. States differ widely in their requirements for teaching certificates. Student Teachers
Papillion-La Vista Student Teacher Framework
The purpose of Papillion La Vista Community Schools student teacher program is designed to provide a foundation for Student Teachers and Cooperating Teachers to assist Student Teachers in becoming accomplished and thoughtful practitioners in a collaborative learning environment.
The program is organized for four components: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction and Professional Responsibilities.
Planning and Preparation:
Papillion La Vista Community Schools Student Teachers will accomplish the following through guidance from their Cooperating Teachers:
