5th and 6th Grade Safety Patrol
The patrol’s job is to remind students of safety rules learned in the classroom and to guide them in safe crossing. Patrol members encourage good safety habits in students walking to and from school. The patrol does not direct traffic.
5th and 6th Grade Honor Choir
Students in 5th and 6th grades may audition for the choir. Members selected will rehearse 30 minutes per week before Thanksgiving, and 60 minutes per week after Thanksgiving in preparation for one evening concert, and one school-day concert tour in December.
6th Grade Band
6th Grade Band is available for any student. The band instructor will find a good match between student and instrument. Students have lessons during the school day once per week and meet every Tuesday night after school starting in mid-October, for whole band instruction. Robotics
6th graders are taught science, technology, engineering, programming and math. These students meet after school and compete yearly in the metro area competition.
Student Council
This group is made up of 5th and 6th graders that meet weekly during their lunch time. They work together on service projects for our community and school. The application process consists of answering a few questions in their own words and they are picked by fellow student council members. This is done anonymously. The applications are usually done in April.
Word Masters
Word Masters is a national competition for students in grades 4-5 which encourages growth in vocabulary and verbal reasoning. These students meet after school one night a week to work on the definition of words that aren’t seen as often in their day to day curriculum. They compete in teams and work together to break words down; origins, parts of speech, prefixes, suffixes, and definitions.
TOSHE (Tara Orff Schulwerk Honor Ensemble)
This music group is open to 4th, 5th and 6th graders here at Tara Heights. This music ensemble will primarily be using Orff instruments such as the xylophone, metallophone, glockenspiel and recorder. In this ensemble, members will have the opportunity to play and sing more challenging music than they would be able to in the music classroom. This ensemble will be rehearsing every Thursday afternoon from 3:10 to 4:00 pm in the music room, with the first rehearsal Thursday, September 30th. There will be a final program on Monday, May 9th at Papillion La Vista High School. Enrollment will be limited to 25 students.
