The Accounting Specialist Career Certificate teaches the principles of accounting and introduces software utilized in businesses. All courses that a student takes to earn the career certificate apply to the associate degree program. An accounting specialist’s job responsibilities often include recording transactions, preparing deposits, reconciling accounts, tracking customer accounts or vendor payments, and preparing financial statements and other reports. Additionally, accounting specialists may assist in preparing payroll. Students may use this career certificate as a pathway to further education in accounting or business administration.

This program is a fast-paced, highly technical environment that provides hands-on skill development in Welding, Precision Machine, Electrical, Motors, and Robotics to offer students a competitive edge in today’s workforce. Upon successful completion of this career academy, students will have employable skills local industry need. Students will have the opportunity to earn industry certifications from OSHA, NIMS, MSSC, and FANUC. This academy is for someone that has not decided on a specific trade’s area as the knowledge and skills learned will be useful in a broad spectrum of manufacturing occupations.  Located at the South Omaha Campus – 27th & Q – Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM).

This program builds a strong foundation of architectural engineering knowledge through project-based and hands-on learning. It prepares students to enter architectural engineering-related industry as BIM/CAD technicians capable of supporting the work of engineers, manufacturers and contractors. Students learn how cutting edge technology and construction techniques influence the production of design and construction documents.  Located at the MCC Fort Omaha Campus at 30th and Fort.

This program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for an entry level position in the auto body industry. Students repair damaged auto body parts and complete detailed painting of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership specifications using hand tools and power tools.  Located at the MCC South Omaha Campus at 27th and Q.

This program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for entry-level positions in the automotive field. This program helps students develop skills in diagnosing and repairing common entry level items, while developing a career path focusing on personal growth. The program presents the fundamentals of automotive systems and emphasizes human relations and critical thinking skills for entry-level technicians.  Located at the MCC South Omaha Campus at 27th and Q.

The MCC Business Academy courses path to the Business Specialist Career Certificate align closely with the Business Transfer Associate in Arts Degree and the Business Administration Associate in Applied Science Degree. These high-transfer and in-demand college courses and programs prepare students to continue their studies at MCC or transfer to four-year educational institutions.  Located at the MCC Sarpy Center – 91st & Giles.

A certified nursing assistant is considered part of the interdisciplinary health care team and assists the registered nurse or practical nurse with providing nursing care to patients. Responsibilities include basic nursing tasks related to meeting physical needs and activities of daily living.  Located at the MCC South Omaha Campus at 27th and Q.

The Civil Engineering Technology program prepares students for employment in the civil engineering field as civil engineering technicians. Civil engineering technology is one of the broadest fields in engineering because it is involved with many facets of our infrastructure, including roads, bridges, utilities, buildings and water treatment facilities.  Located at the MCC Fort Omaha Campus at 30th and Fort.

Criminal Justice is the study of crime and the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, courts, and corrections. Criminal Justice uses scientific perspectives and methodologies to examine crime and society's response to crime in the United States and around the world. These government entities work to maintain control in the public arena, prevent and manage crime, authorize punishment for criminal activities, and offer rehabilitation.  Located at the MCC Sarpy Center at 91st and Giles.

Culinary Arts Foundations courses provide the opportunity to pursue a career certificate, certificate demonstrates a student's completion of foundational skills in culinary arts and baking.  Your hands-on experience takes place in a state-of-the-art, amazing facility.  Located at the MCC Fort Omaha Campus at 30th and Fort.

The Data Science Career Certificate is a level I certificate and is designed for the student who wishes to develop a working knowledge of gathering, managing, interpreting and storytelling with data in our modern world. As large collections of complex data become more commonly leveraged as a driving force in business decision-making, careers in data science, reporting and analytics are in demand! This certificate prepares students for entry level work in data analytics and reporting.

The Diesel Technology program prepares students for a career in the growing diesel technology field. Using the latest equipment and technologies, the curriculum is built upon a foundation that includes the fundamentals of compression ignited internal combustion engines and their variations, shop safety, shop operations, brakes, drive trains, suspension, steering, electrical/electronic systems and heat/air conditioning.  Located at the MCC Applied Technology Center at 10407 State Street. 

This program teaches students the production process for television, film, commercial and other media production. Students learn to use professional moving image cameras in the field and the studio. Students learn how to record quality professional audio in the field and studio. Students learn how to write scripts for feature films, commercials and cooperate industrial media. Students also learn how to edit and manipulate visual and sound media using industry standard professional tools and software. Located at the MCC Elkhorn Valley Campus at 204th and Dodge.

The Electrical Technology program provides education and training for students who are seeking a career in the electrical field. Students entering into this program will study electrical systems in residential wiring, commercial wiring and industrial motor controls.  Located at MCC Fort Omaha Campus at 30th and Fort.

The Emergency Medical Technician program provides an introduction to Emergency Medical Care. Modules of training will include, human body anatomy and physiology of the major human systems, medical terminology, lifting and moving, airway management basic and advanced, patient assessment, medical and trauma, medical emergencies, bleeding control and shock, use of immobilization devices,, pediatrics and children emergencies, ambulance operations, hazardous materials, mass casualty, and triage.  You must be Senior to be eligible for this program. The Fire Science Technology program at Metropolitan Community College focuses on the studies that will provide the successful graduate with the knowledge and tools to perform as a firefighter as effectively as possible.  Located at the MCC Applied Technology Center at 10407 State Street. 

The Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC) program covers all aspects of installing, troubleshooting and servicing heating, ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Students will explore photography by means of digital image capture, editing and printing. It is through this practice of camera operation, editing, and composition that students will fully realize both a technical and conceptual understanding of the photographic medium as a means of visual communication. Student successfully completing the courses below will be eligible for the Digital Photography Career Certificate. These courses will allow students to get a head start on an Associate’s Degree in Photography.

Powersport technicians maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment found in the powersport industry, including marine, snowmobile, motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and lawn / garden equipment. Students will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to perform competently at the dealership level and be trained to gain the soft skills to help you toward the goal of management, manufacturer technical service representative or business ownership.

This program is for students interested in learning about the plumbing profession, preparing them for a plumbing apprenticeship, or seeking the skills to find a job in that field.  Located at the MCC Fort Omaha Campus at 30th and Fort.

This program is designed to teach students HTML5, CSS, and basic computer development concepts such as flow control and object-oriented programming concepts.  Students gain the knowledge and skills of the essential elements of web application development (i.e. Full Stack Web Development). Metropolitan Community College (MCC) Career Academies are designed to provide high school juniors and seniors with opportunities to explore various career fields and get a jump start on their post-secondary education.

Metropolitan Community College Academies are located at the various MCC campuses throughout the metropolitan area.   

MCC Academy classes are taught by certified MCC teachers.

Yes. Students enrolled in MCC Academies benefit from earning college credit while also earning the credits needed to graduate high school.

Metro Academy Programs are FREE for high school students for the 2024-2025 school year. 

Most academies meet between 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.  Specific program information can be found by calling the PLCS Academy Programs office at 402-537-6217.

No. Students are responsible for transportation to and from their MCC Academy.

Students interested in getting a jump start on their college education and who demonstrate an interest in any of the career fields that provide a career academy. 

Interested students can apply for an MCC Career Academy by submitting their name through an online application. Interested students will receive an email in late November with the MCC online application.
