Important reminders about changing your child’s school!
As the Papillion La Vista Community Schools continues to grow, the ability to allow students to attend a school other than their assigned school becomes more limited. In an effort to manage growth and maintain low class sizes, transfers between schools are approved based on specific guidelines. If you are thinking that you may want your child to attend a school, other than the school where you live, there are some important reminders below:
The application must be submitted by February 1, 2019 if you want to request a transfer for the 2019-2020 school year. No late paperwork is accepted.
There are currently four elementary schools that are closed; Walnut Creek, Patriot, Bell and Prairie Queen. If you move out of one of these schools and you have attended that school for the equivalent of a semester, you can finish the current school year only. No transfers into a closed school are allowed.
Transfer requests at all other elementary schools are approved based on space available.
All three middle schools, Papillion Middle, La Vista Middle and Liberty Middle are at capacity. New transfer requests are not approved at the middle school level.
Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, transfers between high schools must be equal in numbers. For example, if 5 Titans request to be Monarchs and 3 Monarchs request to be Titans, then 3 are approved each way. If there are more applications than available spots, a random drawing will determine who is allowed to transfer.
If you live in an area where boundaries were changed, and the Board of Education approved a Boundary Transition Exception (BTE) for your area, you still must complete the transfer application. This would include the North Shore, Granite Falls North, Granite Lake, and other areas which were assigned to Monarch with the recent high school boundary change. There is also a BTE for the Rumsey Station Elementary area from the middle school and high school boundary change in 2008. If you want to use your BTE, you MUST complete the transfer application. Applications only need to be completed once.
If you are currently attending a school where you do not live because of a previous transfer, you do not have to complete a transfer application again. Once you are approved you can stay on the pathway for that school.

If you have questions about the transfer process, please call the Student Services Department at 402-537-6214.

When inclement weather occurs, Papillion La Vista Community Schools will make a decision about canceling school prior to 6 a.m. whenever possible and will attempt to make a decision the night before.
Announcements will be made in the following places:
*Superintendent Rikli will make the first announcement from his Twitter at twitter.com/AndrewRikli.
*A push notification will go to the PLCS district app, which is available for free on Apple and Android mobile devices by searching for “Papillion La Vista” in the Apple iTunes Store or Google Play Store.
*Automated phone calls and text messages will be made to homes via the Blackboard messaging system starting once the decision has been made.
*Local news media also will list closings on TV and online.
If the Papillion La Vista Community Schools are not listed as closed, school will be in session as scheduled. Please do not call the school for closing information. In addition, please check one of the trusted sources listed above if you hear from elsewhere that school has been canceled.
